7th grade students studied artwork of Pop Artist Dean Russo (http://www.deanrussoart.webs.com/) as inspiration for their own Pop Art works of art. Students pick an image, posterize it, added icons and symbols and then paint it using neon colors in order to mimic the work of Dean Russo.

Do you enjoy cake? Do you like baking or sculpting things? Have you ever watched ‘Ace of Cakes’ or ‘Cake Boss’ or ‘Last Cake Standing’ or the ‘Food Network Extreme Cake Challenge’ and wished you could one day do the same thing? Well here is your chance! If so, check out this website: https://sites.google.com/site/cakechallengeforcharity/

On Monday April 7th 2014, come watch local visiting artist and Westfield alumni Alicia Eisenmann, proud owner of Delish Cakes in Old Town Bloomingdale, as she will demonstrate how she creates beautiful, as well as delicious, cakes that look like works of art themselves. Then join Westfield’s 2nd Biannual Cake challenge for Charity and create a cake to be raffled off at Portfolio night with all proceeds going to the Bloomingdale Township’s Food Pantry.

All interested students, parents, teachers, and Community Members should visit the Cake Challenge for Charity Google site at https://sites.google.com/site/cakechallengeforcharity/ or contact Westfield’s Art Teacher Mrs. Matt (Dmatt@sd13.org) for registration permissions slips and cake decorating materials!

As the first year for this event, it was a great Success – A packed house with 54 cakes that raised over $500.00 in just one hour! I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out – If you want to see the cakes from 2012 individually, go to http://www.artsonia.com/museum/gallery.asp?exhibit=521252
