8th Grade Students viewed various Post It Note YouTube videos, such as this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpWM0FNPZSs), which showed the creative possiblities aviable. Students then broke into groups and created vivid works of art using only Post It Notes in a grid patterns. 8th grade students in the 8th grade showcase class Abstract Art studied aerial view maps and created artistic abstract maps using toilet paper, paper mache and water colors. View all of the students’ creations on Artsonia at:

7th grade students looked at various styles of bird houses to get a better understanding of what individuals are looking for when they want to get a bird house. Considering such, students then sketched out themes which were later transfered to their own wooden bird houses. Students added to color to their designs by first painting them a base coat of white followed by various shades of color using sharpies and markers.

8th grade students who signed up for the Showcase class pointillism learned about artist George Seurat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Seurat) and his use of pointillism to create the famous painting,  A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jattewhich is at the Art Institute in Chicago. Students then picked a picture of an animal out and used q-tips dipped in paint to create their own mini pointillism painting.
